    Area of Science:

    • Analytical Chemistry
    • Veterinary Pharmacology

    Background:

    • The official final action method (42.028--42.032) is used for amprolium determination in feeds.
    • A modification to the aluminum oxide preparation for chromatography was introduced.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate a modified official final action method for amprolium determination in feed.
    • To assess the method's applicability to both premixes and finished feeds.

    Main Methods:

    • A collaborative study was conducted comparing the modified method with the official method.
    • Analysis focused on a premix containing 0.5% amprolium.

    Main Results:

    • The official method recovered only 87.7% of amprolium from the premix compared to the modified method.
    • The modification successfully enabled the assay of amprolium in both premixes and finished feeds.

    Conclusions:

    • The modified method offers improved accuracy for amprolium determination in feed.
    • The updated official final action method is now suitable for a wider range of feed products, including premixes.
