    Background:

    • Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone typically associated with pregnancy.
    • The presence and role of hCG in non-trophoblastic tumors, including breast cancer, are not fully understood.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the presence and localization of immunoreactive human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in malignant breast tumors.
    • To determine the concentration of hCG within these tumors.

    Main Methods:

    • Analysis of 65 surgically removed malignant breast tumors.
    • Measurement of hCG concentrations using a beta-chain specific radioimmunoassay.
    • Immunoperoxidase staining technique applied to formalin-fixed tumor sections to localize hCG.

    • Immunoreactive hCG was detected in 9 out of 65 (13.8%) malignant breast tumors.
