A latex-sponge collar for partial-body plethysmography using anesthetized rodents

A latex-sponge sandwich collar was used for sealing rodents in a partial body plethsymograph. This collar formed a leak-free seal between an aerosol inhalation exposure unit and the plethysmograph. Respiratory frequency was compared in anesthetized rats and hamsters using this collar and other types of collars. The newly designed collars did not hamper breathing patterns and reduced the incidence of deaths observed using collars of another design.
