Ocular aspects of learning disabilities in children

Abstract:
A total of 160 children were investigated to establish the role of ocular problems in children with learning disabilities. Thirty-eight per cent were found to have associated ocular problems. Eight per cent (8%) of these showed improvement in scholastic achievement after the elimination of the ocular defect. When there was evidence of brain dysfunction, correction of errors of refraction or muscle balance problems failed to improve scholastic achievement. A multidisciplinary approach to the problem is mandatory.
