[Differential diagnostic difficulties in large ovarian cysts]

The authors describe 18 patients with gygantic ovarian cysts. The duration of the disease was at an average 2 years. In the majority of the cases (17 patients) the correct and timely diagnosis became possible only after additional examinations: contrast X-ray analysis of the stomach, intestine, urinary system, mesenteriography. Fifteen patients were subjected to surgery, 6 of them were operated urgently. The volume of the surgery was dependent on the changes in the internal organs and consisted in a simple or extended (including the uterine appendages and uterus) ovarectomy.
