    Summary

    Rectal acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) effectively reduces fever in children after open heart surgery. Doses of 15-50 mg/kg showed similar results, with the greatest temperature drop occurring at 4-5 hours post-administration.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of rectal acetylsalicylic acid in reducing postoperative fever in children undergoing open heart surgery.
    • To determine the optimal dosage and timing for rectal acetylsalicylic acid administration.

    Main Methods:

    • A study involving 14 pediatric patients who underwent open heart surgery.
    • Administration of rectal acetylsalicylic acid at two different dosage ranges: 15-30 mg/kg and 30-50 mg/kg.
    • Comparison of temperature changes between treated groups and a no-treatment control group.
