    Background:

    • Psychosomatic stress is increasingly recognized for its influence on physiological processes.
    • The interaction between stress and tumor growth, particularly Ehrlich ascites tumor (EAT), requires further elucidation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the impact of psychosomatic stress on the growth and progression of Ehrlich ascites tumor (EAT) in mice.
    • To determine how different durations and methods of stress application affect tumor development and host survival.

    Main Methods:

    • Mice (CBA and BALBc strains) were subjected to a stressor (light signal followed by electric shock) for varying durations before and during Ehrlich ascites tumor (EAT) inoculation.
    • Tumor cells were administered via intraperitoneal (i.p.) or subcutaneous (s.c.) routes.
    • Survival time, tumor invasion, and histological changes in endocrine and lymphatic organs were analyzed.

    Main Results:

    • A 2-week stress period significantly increased survival time in CBA mice with i.p. EAT.
    • In BALBc mice, stress prolonged survival following s.c. EAT inoculation but not i.p. inoculation.
    • Stressed mice exhibited delayed and reduced tumor invasion into vital organs.
    • Histological analysis confirmed stress-induced changes in endocrine and lymphatic organs, indicating the EAT transplant itself also induced stress.

    Conclusions:

    • Psychosomatic stress can modulate the host-tumor relationship, influencing Ehrlich ascites tumor (EAT) progression and survival.
    • The route of tumor inoculation significantly affects the outcome of stress intervention.
    • Both external stressors and tumor transplantation contribute to the overall stress experienced by the host.
