This case study details embolic cardiac infarction in a patient with mitral-aortic valvular defect and atrial fibrillation. Embolic events also affected the brain and mesenteric arteries, leading to hypertension.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Neurology
- Vascular Surgery
Background:
- Mitral-aortic valvular defects can predispose patients to thromboembolic events.
- Atrial fibrillation is a known risk factor for systemic embolization.
- Simultaneous arterial embolism in multiple vascular beds is a rare but serious complication.
Abstract:
One case with embolic cardiac infarction is described, that had developed in a patient with mitral-aortic valvular defect with auricular fibrillation and simultaneous embolic dissemination in the right middle cerebral and superior mesenteric arteries. The patient developed hypertension with the embolic incidence, explained by the increased production of catecholamines during the stress state.
