    Background:

    • Somatic crossing over can produce twin spots of different genotypes in developing organisms.
    • Minute mutants in flies are dominant lethal alleles, but heterozygotes can survive.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate if homozygous Minute cells, generated via somatic crossing over, can survive by receiving essential gene products from adjacent wild-type cells.

    • Inducing somatic crossing over in Drosophila melanogaster heterozygous for a dominant Minute mutation.
    • Analyzing the resulting fly tissues for the presence of twin spots, where one cell is wild-type homozygous and the other is Minute homozygous.
