Statement concerning the use of names for antibiotics in the USA

While the text below does not purport to be the expression of internationally agreed criteria, it is published in the belief that it may help to make the naming of new antibiotic substances more rational and more uniform until such time as international recommendations may be adopted. It is issued, however, under the sole responsibility of the Committee on Nomenclature of Antibiotics of the American Society for Microbiology.
