    Summary

    Rabbit nictitating membrane responses conditioned with circumorbital shock (Group C) showed faster learning and recovery than those conditioned with paraorbital shock (Group P). Both groups showed decrements when the interval changed.

    Background:

    • The nictitating membrane response (NMR) in rabbits is a widely used model for studying classical conditioning.
    • Understanding how the timing and location of stimuli affect learning is crucial for behavioral neuroscience.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of unconditional stimulus (US) locus on the acquisition and extinction of the rabbit NMR.
    • To examine how changes in interstimulus interval (ISI) impact conditioned response (CR) topography and performance.

    • Rabbits were conditioned using a 200 msec ISI with either circumorbital (C) or paraorbital (P) shock as the US locus.
