    Summary

    Radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism did not consistently increase thyroid hormone levels in most patients. Some experienced temporary hormone increases, while others showed no change, with smaller goiters correlating with no hormone rise.

    Background:

    • Hyperthyroidism is a condition characterized by excessive thyroid hormone production.
    • Radioactive iodine (I-131) therapy is a common treatment for hyperthyroidism.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the pattern of serum thyroid hormone (T4 and T3) levels following I-131 therapy in hyperthyroid patients.
    • To identify factors influencing thyroid hormone response post-treatment.

    Main Methods:

    • Serial measurements of serum T4 and T3 levels were performed for 1 month in 14 hyperthyroid patients after I-131 therapy.
    • Patients' goiter size and treatment doses were recorded.

    Main Results:

    • No consistent pattern of serum T4 and T3 levels was observed post-I-131 therapy for the entire group.
