    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of surgical stress severity on plasma glucagon (IRG) levels.
    • To determine the temporal pattern of IRG changes in relation to operative stress.
    • To explore the origins of hyperglucagonemia in the surgical context.

    Main Methods:

    • Plasma IRG levels were measured in 40 patients undergoing surgery.
    • Patients were categorized into three groups based on surgical stress severity: minor, moderate, and major.
    • IRG levels were monitored intraoperatively and up to the 7th postoperative day.

    • Major and moderate surgical stress induced 30-100% increases in plasma IRG one hour post-surgery.
