[Is it necessary to limit the use of the Copper-T-200 IUD to 3 years?]
The authors put forward their experience in the use of the intrauterine contraceptive device Copper-T-2--in 2026 women over a period of nine semesters. In that period, during a total exposure of 32519 months, 39 normal and 2 extrauterine pregnancies were recorded. What is to be pointed out is that in the first five semesters of the use of the device 35 pregnancies (85.36%) occurred, while in the last two semesters not a single pregnancy was recorded. According to their own indicators, the authors did not find any statistically significant advantages of the Copper-T-200 IUD in the prevention of pregnancy in relation to the behaviour and safety of the inert uterine device of the Beospir type. In view of these data and other positive properties of the Copper-T-200 IUD, they are inclined to think that the inserted Copper-T-200 IUD should be left in situ as long as its presence does not in any way disturb the health and general condition of the woman.
