    Summary

    Involuntary detrusor contractions involve a urethral pressure fall similar to normal voiding. Parasympathetic blockade affects detrusor contraction but has limited impact on the urethral pressure drop.

    Background:

    • Involuntary detrusor contractions (IDCs) are a common cause of urinary incontinence.
    • Understanding the urethral behavior during IDCs is crucial for developing effective treatments.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To describe urethral pressure dynamics during involuntary detrusor contractions.
    • To elucidate the potential mechanisms underlying IDCs.

    Main Methods:

    • Review of bladder-urethral pressure records from 77 patients with IDCs.
    • Analysis of urethral pressure changes preceding and during detrusor contractions.
    • Assessment of the effects of parasympathetic blockade on detrusor and urethral pressures.
