    Summary

    A small dose of L-tryptophan significantly increased brain serotonin in rats. This suggests that changes in plasma tryptophan levels influence brain serotonin, even at low concentrations.

    • Serotonin is a key neurotransmitter regulating mood and behavior.
    • Tryptophan is the precursor to serotonin synthesis.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effect of a small L-tryptophan dose on brain serotonin levels.
    • To determine if physiological changes in plasma tryptophan influence brain serotonin.

    • Rats were administered a low dose of L-tryptophan (12.5 mg/kg).
    • Brain and plasma tryptophan and serotonin concentrations were measured at various time points.
