    Summary

    Chronic granulomatous uveitis can cause peripapillary subretinal neovascularization. Photocoagulation therapy successfully treated this condition in one eye, preserving vision despite ongoing inflammation.

    Background:

    • Bilateral chronic granulomatous uveitis is a rare inflammatory condition affecting the eyes.
    • Peripapillary subretinal neovascularization (PSRN) is a sight-threatening complication that can occur in various ocular diseases.

    Observation:

    • A 17-year-old female with chronic granulomatous uveitis developed progressive PSRN in both eyes.
    • Intensive medical therapy failed to prevent vision loss in the left eye due to macular scarring.

    Findings:

    • Argon laser photocoagulation was initiated for PSRN in the right eye.
    • The photocoagulation therapy successfully eliminated all subretinal neovascularization in the right eye.
    • Good central vision was maintained in the right eye following treatment.

    Implications:

    • Chronic uveitis should be considered a potential cause of PSRN.
    • Photocoagulation is a viable treatment option for PSRN associated with chronic uveitis, even in the presence of active inflammation.
    • Early intervention with photocoagulation may prevent vision loss in affected eyes.
