Surgical treatment for fibrous sub-aortic stenosis effectively reduced pressure gradients in most patients. This study reviewed 19 cases, showing positive outcomes without surgical mortality.

    Area of Science:

    • Cardiology
    • Cardiovascular Surgery

    Background:

    • Fibrous sub-aortic stenosis is a significant cause of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction.
    • Surgical intervention is a primary treatment modality for this condition.

    Observation:

    • This study evaluated 19 patients who underwent surgical treatment for fibrous sub-aortic stenosis.
    • Pre- and post-operative clinical, radiologic, EKG, and cardiac catheterization data were analyzed.
    • No surgical deaths occurred in the series.

    Findings:

    • Post-operative cardiac catheterization in 14 patients revealed a significant decrease in the pressure gradient in 11 cases.
    • Pharmacological testing before and after surgery in 4 patients did not show significant changes in gradients.

    Implications:

    Related Experiment Videos

    • Surgical relief of fibrous sub-aortic stenosis can lead to substantial hemodynamic improvement.
    • Further research may explore the role of pharmacological interventions in conjunction with surgery.
    • These findings support surgical management as an effective treatment for this condition.
