    Summary

Bladder base insufficiency (BBI) affects 26% of patients undergoing voiding cystourethrography. This condition, characterized by weak detrusor contractions and poor bladder neck closure, often leads to stress incontinence.

    Area of Science:

    • Urology
    • Gynecology
    • Radiology

    Background:

    • Bladder base insufficiency (BBI) is a condition affecting bladder support.
    • Stress incontinence is a common symptom associated with BBI.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the urodynamic and morphological characteristics of bladder base insufficiency.
    • To understand the relationship between BBI and stress incontinence.

    Main Methods:

    • Colpo-cysto-urethrography was performed on 420 patients.
    • Urodynamic and gynecological examinations were conducted for each patient.

    Main Results:

    • 26% of patients presented with BBI.
    • BBI showed anterior/inferior bladder neck displacement, pointed bladder base, weak detrusor function, and funneling.

    Related Experiment Videos

  • Urodynamics revealed low opening and detrusor contraction pressures, with variable flow rates.
  • 84% of patients with BBI experienced stress incontinence.
  • Conclusions:

    • BBI involves anatomical and functional deficits in bladder support.
    • Weak detrusor contractions and insufficient bladder neck closure contribute to stress incontinence in BBI patients.
