    Area of Science:

    • Neuro-oncology
    • Pediatric Pathology

    Background:

    • Choriocarcinoma is a rare germ cell tumor.
    • Third ventricular tumors can cause significant neurological deficits.

    Observation:

    • A case of a pediatric patient with third ventricular choriocarcinoma is presented.
    • A second case in a young male with a similar tumor location is also described.
    • One patient experienced sudden death post-operatively due to intraventricular hemorrhage.

    Findings:

    • Post-mortem examination revealed intraventricular hemorrhage and obstruction of the foramina of Monroe in the deceased patient.
    • The study discusses the primary origin and etiology of these rare tumors.

    Implications:

    • Highlights the aggressive nature and potential for rapid deterioration in third ventricular choriocarcinomas.
    • Emphasizes the need for further research into the etiology and optimal management of pediatric germ cell tumors in this location.
