    Summary

A choroidal hemangioma near an inflammatory scar was successfully treated with laser therapy. This case suggests scars may influence hemangioma development by altering blood flow.

    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Medical Retina
    • Vascular Tumors

    Background:

    • Choroidal hemangiomas are rare vascular tumors.
    • Chorioretinal inflammatory scars can affect ocular structures.
    • The etiology of choroidal hemangiomas is not fully understood.

    Observation:

    • A 67-year-old male presented with a choroidal hemangioma adjacent to a chorioretinal inflammatory scar.
    • The patient's visual acuity was affected.
    • Retinal detachment was present.

    Findings:

    • Argon laser photocoagulation was used to treat the choroidal hemangioma.
    • Treatment led to improved visual acuity.
    • Retinal reattachment was achieved post-treatment.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights a potential link between chorioretinal scars and hemangioma development.
    • Altered local hemodynamics due to scars may be a contributing factor.
    • Laser photocoagulation is an effective treatment for symptomatic choroidal hemangiomas.
