Abstract:
Surgical "decompression" of the orbit does not ensure correction of endocrinologic exophthalmia. This is due to profound changes in the deep orbital tissues. The authors have tried to solve the problem through a different approach: adapting the orbit to its pathological content. They developed an osteotomy that yields promising results: eight patients amounting to 15 orbits have been operated and exophthalmia was reduced in 12 (mean 3 mm).
