Substituted thiatriazoles as possible anticancer compounds

Eight new 5-arylamino-1,2,3,4-thiatriazoles and seven known (whose activity has not yet been reported in the literature) were readily synthesised through oxidative cyclization of 4-aryl-3-thiosemicarbazides by nitrous acid. Out of the thiatriazoles tested for their anti cancer activity in vitro against "KB" cell by agar-plate culture method using HFS9 cell line, only two compounds showed inhibitory activity. In addition to UV, IR, and TLC studies an investigation of the low resolution mass spectra have been carried out.
