    Area of Science:

    • Urology
    • Andrology
    • Men's Health

    Background:

    • Hemospermia (blood in semen) is a condition that can cause significant patient anxiety.
    • The etiology of hemospermia is often unclear, leading to varied diagnostic approaches.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To review cases of hemospermia over a decade to determine common etiologies and outcomes.
    • To assess the necessity of comprehensive urologic investigations for hemospermia.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective review of 65 cases of hemospermia over a 10-year period.
    • Analysis of patient records to identify potential causes and diagnostic findings.

    Main Results:

    • No specific etiology was identified in the majority of hemospermia cases.
    • Renal tuberculosis was noted in 11% of the reviewed cases.
    • The condition was generally self-limiting and benign.

    Conclusions:

    • Hemospermia is predominantly a benign condition with a self-limiting course.
    • Extensive urologic investigation may not be required for most patients presenting with hemospermia.
    • While renal tuberculosis can be associated, it does not necessitate a universal invasive workup.
