A study of the effect of anabolic steroids on nitrogen balance

The study was designed to show if anabolic steroids can improve the protein states of sick Nigerian Children. 5 children in Hospital were used for the study. They did not have any surgical operations immediately preceeding the study. Each child acted as his own control. In two of the five children there was a statistically significant positive nitrogen balance. It was concluded that anabolic steroids may have a place in the management of protein depleted children in Nigeria. A larger number has to be studied to reach a definite conclusion.
