    Area of Science:

    • Rheumatology and Neurology
    • Connective tissue diseases
    • Neuroimmunology

    Background:

    • Systemic sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by ত্বক and internal organ fibrosis.
    • Neurological complications can occur in systemic sclerosis, but their prevalence and specific types require further elucidation.
    • Understanding the spectrum of neurological involvement is crucial for comprehensive patient management.

    Observation:

    • A prospective study surveyed 125 patients diagnosed with systemic sclerosis.
    • Participants were assessed for the presence of neurological symptoms and signs.
    • Diagnostic criteria for neurological lesions were established prior to the survey.

    Findings:

    • Seven out of 125 patients (5.6%) exhibited defined neurological lesions.
    • The most common neurological manifestation was carpal tunnel syndrome (4 patients).
    • Other identified neurological conditions included trigeminal neuralgia, mononeuritis multiplex, and peripheral neuropathy (1 patient each).

    Implications:

    • Neurological involvement in systemic sclerosis, while present, appears to be relatively infrequent.
    • Carpal tunnel syndrome is a notable neurological complication in this patient cohort.
    • These findings underscore the importance of considering neurological assessments in systemic sclerosis patients presenting with relevant symptoms.
