Summary

Isovolumetric exchange transfusion (IET) with thyroid hormone-free blood cells acutely lowers thyroid hormone levels. This IET stimulates thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) release, an effect significantly inhibited by thalamus lesions in rats.
