[Primary cancer of the liver: present situation in Zaire]

An analysis is given of all cases of hepatocellular carcinoma notified between 1 January 1980 and 31 December 1983 at two hospitals in Kinshasa (Zaïre). This cancer occurs most frequently in males between 20 and 49 years of age. It occurs much less often in women and usually at a later age. The white population of Zaïre is not affected by hepatocellular carcinoma.
