Abstract:
Some aspects of the physiology and pathophysiology of somatostatin (somatotropin release inhibiting factor, SRIF) and its relation to other endocrine system are reported in a review. Somatostatin has influence on many organs and organ functions. The clinical importance and possibilities of the therapeutic use of somatostatin and its analogues in case of diabetes mellitus and other endocrine and gastrointestinal diseases are discussed.
