    Summary

    Prostacyclin (PGI2) acts as an anti-atherosclerotic hormone. Atherosclerosis develops when lipid peroxides in low-density lipoproteins (LDL) inhibit endothelial PGI2 production, leading to impaired generation and disease symptoms.
