[Changes in heart function under the simultaneous effect of beta receptor blocking agents and anesthetics]
Abstract:
The present publication is a summary of a study concerning the direct myocardial effects of seven different beta-blockers which were quantified by means of the cat's heart-lung-preparation. Modifications in these effects induced by administration of fluothane, enflurane, dehydrobenzperidol and fentanyl are recorded. The findings are discussed and compared with those of other authors who have made similar studies in the intact animal, and in man. On the basis of this critical approach recommendations are made concerning the use of beta-blockers in the routine practice of clinical anaesthesia.
