    Background:

    • Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a serious parasitic disease.
    • VL can affect various organs, but intestinal involvement is less understood.
    • Malabsorption is a potential complication of VL.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate small intestinal function in patients with visceral leishmaniasis.
    • To assess the impact of VL on nutrient absorption.
    • To evaluate the effect of treatment on intestinal function and histology.

    Main Methods:

    • Studied 10 patients with visceral leishmaniasis.
    • Assessed vitamin A and d-xylose absorption.
    • Performed intestinal mucosal biopsies to identify Leishmania parasites and assess histology.
