    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the association between parental and spousal smoking habits and lung cancer risk.
    • To explore potential gender-specific effects of parental smoking on lung cancer development.
    • To examine the influence of parental smoking on lung cancer risk among non-smokers.

    Main Methods:

    • A case-control study was conducted in Louisiana, USA.
    • Data were collected from 1338 lung cancer patients and 1393 comparison subjects.
    • Information on smoking habits of parents and spouses was gathered through questionnaires.

    Main Results:

    • Non-smokers married to heavy smokers showed an increased lung cancer risk.
