    Summary

    Free skin flap transfer successfully reconstructed feet in 90% of patients, achieving goals in one stage with minimal recovery. Innervation is not essential for successful foot reconstruction using this method.

    Background:

    • Foot salvage and reconstruction present significant challenges in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
    • Free skin flap transfer is a complex microsurgical technique with potential applications in limb reconstruction.

    Observation:

    • Ten patients underwent free skin flap transfer for foot salvage and reconstruction.
    • Follow-up exceeded one year for all patients.

    Findings:

    • Nine out of ten patients achieved successful outcomes.
    • The reconstructive goals were generally met in a single surgical stage.
    • Patients experienced minimal hospitalization and disability time.
    • Cutaneous innervation of the flap, while considered, was not found to be necessary for successful outcomes in weight-bearing locations.

    • Free skin flap transfer is a viable and effective option for foot salvage and reconstruction.
    • The procedure offers a high success rate with efficient recovery periods.
    • Surgical planning can proceed without prioritizing flap innervation for successful weight-bearing reconstruction.
