    This study explored skin reactivity to neurotransmitters in schizophrenic patients. Abnormal skin responses, particularly vasoconstriction, may reflect central nervous system neurotransmitter changes in schizophrenia.

    Background:

    • Schizophrenia is associated with hypothesized alterations in central nervous system (CNS) neurotransmitter physiology.
    • Understanding peripheral markers of neurotransmitter function could offer insights into schizophrenia.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To present pilot data on a methodology for assessing simultaneous skin reactivity to key neurotransmitters.
    • To investigate differences in skin reactivity profiles between young and old schizophrenic patients on medication and young healthy controls.

    • Intradermal injections of norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, and histamine were administered.
