    Background:

    • Marijuana exposure negatively impacts human and rodent spermatogenesis.
    • Sertoli cells within the testes are crucial for germinal epithelium support and may mediate marijuana's adverse effects.
    • Understanding the direct impact of marijuana components on Sertoli cells is essential.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effects of three primary marijuana components on human Sertoli cell function.
    • To assess the impact of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), and cannabinol (CN) on key Sertoli cell markers.

    Main Methods:

    • Cultured human Sertoli cells were treated with varying concentrations of THC, CBD, and CN.
    • Transferrin secretion, total protein secretion, and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase activity were measured.
    • Experiments included varying hormonal milieu (FSH, testosterone) and iron (Fe3+) levels.

    • Further research is needed to elucidate the mechanisms behind marijuana's impact on male fertility.
