    Summary

    Children with language learning disabilities showed similar auditory discrimination abilities as normal children when listening to distorted speech. This suggests a need for specialized audiologic screening for these children, even with normal hearing.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare auditory discrimination skills in children with LLD and typically developing children.
    • To investigate the effects of auditory filtering on speech perception in these groups.
    • To propose an audiologic screening method for LLD.

    Main Methods:

    • Two groups of children (11 normal, 11 LLD) participated.
    • Auditory discrimination was assessed using a filtered word intelligibility test.
    • Tasks included monaural (diotic/dichotic) and binaural fusion conditions.
