    Summary

This review explores ketamine and benzodiazepine combinations for anesthesia, known as ataranalgesia. New findings show 4-aminopyridine can reverse the hypnotic effects of these drugs.

    Area of Science:

    • Anesthesiology
    • Pharmacology

    Background:

    • Ketamine and benzodiazepines are frequently used anesthetic agents.
    • Their combined use, termed ataranalgesia, is recognized for specific clinical applications.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To review the pharmacodynamic effects of ketamine and benzodiazepines.
    • To evaluate the clinical utility of their combination in anesthesia.
    • To discuss novel findings on reversing hypnotic action.

    Main Methods:

    • Literature review of pharmacodynamic effects.
    • Analysis of experimental results on ataranalgesic combinations.
    • Examination of new data on 4-aminopyridine's reversal effects.

    Main Results:

    • Ataranalgetic combinations of ketamine and benzodiazepines demonstrate advantages for inducing and maintaining general anesthesia.
    • Experimental data support the efficacy of these combinations.
    • 4-aminopyridine shows potential in reversing the hypnotic effects.

    Conclusions:

    • Combined use of ketamine and benzodiazepines offers benefits in general anesthesia.
    • Further research into reversal agents like 4-aminopyridine is warranted.
