    Background:

    • Monoamine metabolites in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are implicated in mood disorders.
    • Previous research suggests a link between neurotransmitter levels and suicidal behavior.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the relationship between CSF monoamine metabolite levels and suicide attempts.
    • To explore the predictive value of these metabolites for suicide risk and mortality.

    Main Methods:

    • Measured CSF concentrations of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA), homovanillic acid (HVA), and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl glycol (MHPG).
