    Background:

    • Oocyte development in nonmammalian species involves significant ribonucleic acid (RNA) synthesis and storage.
    • This stored RNA is utilized during oocyte maturation and early embryogenesis.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the incorporation and persistence of RNA in mouse oocytes.
    • To determine if mouse oocytes store RNA for later embryonic use, similar to nonmammalian species.

    • Autoradiographic study of radiolabeled RNA precursors in mouse oocytes.
    • Analysis of RNA distribution (nucleolar, chromosomal, cytoplasmic) and persistence over time.
