    Summary

    This study reports the first case of exudative retinal detachment in a patient with hemoglobin SC disease. Argon laser treatment successfully closed neovascularization but led to retinal holes due to traction.

    • Argon laser photocoagulation targeting feeder vessels successfully closed the neovascularization, leading to retinal flattening and exudation clearance.
    • Subsequent development of multiple retinal holes occurred in areas of thin, ischemic retina due to vitreoretinal traction.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights a novel presentation of retinal vascular complications in hemoglobin SC disease.
    • The findings suggest that while laser treatment can manage neovascularization, potential complications like tractional retinal holes must be considered in patients with sickling hemoglobinopathies.
