    Fat emboli from hip replacement surgery may cause blood clots. Necropsy findings suggest a link between fat embolisation and antemortem thrombosis in patients.

    Background:

    • All patients exhibited extensive pulmonary fat embolisation.
    • Antemortem thrombosis was present in all three cases.

    • The findings indicate a possible causal link between surgical fat emboli and subsequent thrombosis.
