A comparison of Dutch East Indian (Indonesian) and tropical American botanical remedies (folk medicines) illustrates a method for locating similarities, discrepancies and contradictions which can indicate new lines of investigation in tracing active ingredients or other reasons that explain phytotherapeutic effects.
