Response of whole body X-irradiation to inanition stress

The study showed the effect of whole body X-irradiation on normal and starved rats. Irradiation brought about more deleterious changes in the starved rats rather than the normally fed rats. Following X-irradiation levels of protein and nucleic acid (DNA and RNA) contents in the brain; cholesterol and alkaline phosphatase in the testes were found excessively lowered in the starved rats when compared with the irradiated control rats. Concentration of 5-HIAA and VMA was higher in the urine of rats undergoing inanition stress rather than the normal rats after X-irradiation. Similarly the degenerative changes were prominent in the testes of starved rats rather than the normally fed rats after irradiation.
