    Background:

    • Hydrocephalus is a condition characterized by abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the brain's ventricles.
    • Myelin basic protein (MBP) is a key component of myelin, the protective sheath around nerve fibers.
    • Elevated MBP in CSF is a potential biomarker for demyelination in various neurological disorders.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the relationship between active hydrocephalus and immunoreactive myelin basic protein (MBP) levels in CSF.
    • To determine if MBP levels correlate with hydrocephalus severity, etiology, and ventricular size.

    • Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples were collected from 57 patients with active hydrocephalus.

    • MBP in CSF may serve as a biomarker for active demyelination in hydrocephalus.
