    Platelet DNA polymerase (PDP) synthesizes DNA from RNA and is elevated in early CML and PV. Unlike in PV, chemotherapy does not normalize PDP levels in CML, suggesting a role in oncogenesis.

    Background:

    • Platelet DNA polymerase (PDP) is an enzyme involved in DNA synthesis.
    • Elevated levels of PDP have been observed in certain hematological malignancies.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the role of partially purified platelet DNA polymerase (PDP) in DNA synthesis.
    • To examine PDP levels in the early stages of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) and Polycythemia Vera (PV).
    • To explore the potential involvement of PDP in oncogenesis.

    Main Methods:

    • Partially purified platelet DNA polymerase (PDP) was used to synthesize DNA transcripts from platelet polyadenylated RNA.
    • PDP levels were measured in patients with CML and PV.

    • Partially purified platelet DNA polymerase (PDP) demonstrated the ability to synthesize DNA transcripts from platelet polyadenylated RNA.
