A rare intrapericardial tumor, giant lymph node hyperplasia, was found in a 42-year-old female. This unusual cardiac mass presented with chest pain and was successfully surgically removed.

    Area of Science:

    • Cardiology
    • Oncology
    • Pathology

    Background:

    • A 42-year-old female patient had a 2-year history of asymptomatic cardiomegaly.
    • She developed new-onset chest pain radiating to the left arm and face two weeks prior to presentation.

    Observation:

    • Cardiac imaging revealed a highly vascular mass in the left atrial region.
    • Surgical exploration identified an intrapericardial tumor intimately adherent to both atria.

    Findings:

    • Histopathological examination confirmed the tumor to be giant lymph node hyperplasia (GLNH).
    • This case represents an unusual intrapericardial localization of GLNH.

    Implications:

    • Giant lymph node hyperplasia, though rare, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of cardiac masses.

    Related Experiment Videos

  • Surgical resection is a viable treatment option for intrapericardial GLNH, offering symptomatic relief and diagnostic confirmation.
