    Background:

    • Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disorder.
    • Malignant hyperpyrexia (MH) is a severe reaction to anesthesia.

    Observation:

    • A patient with DMD experienced MH during general anesthesia.
    • The patient exhibited bradycardia, ventricular fibrillation, ventricular flutter, and a temperature rise.
    • Myoglobinuria and elevated creatine phosphokinase (CPK) levels were noted.

    Findings:

    • Muscle biopsy revealed increased caffeine sensitivity, indicative of MH.
    • DMD was diagnosed post-MH event, consistent with prior reports.
    • No muscle rigidity occurred during or after anesthesia.
