    Background:

    • Suppressor T cells play a critical role in immune regulation.
    • Understanding the induction of suppressor cells is vital for controlling immune responses.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To elucidate the mechanism for inducing NP-specific first order suppressor cells (TS1).
    • To identify the specific antigen-presenting cells (APCs) responsible for TS1 induction.
    • To determine the genetic restrictions governing TS1 induction.

    Main Methods:

    • Induction of TS1 cells via intravenous administration of hapten-coupled splenic cells.
    • Assessment of TS1 activity through adoptive transfer into syngeneic recipients.
    • Characterization of APCs involved in TS1 induction based on cell surface markers and resistance to treatments.

    Main Results:

    • NP-coupled, firmly adherent, FcR+, I-A-bearing macrophages induce TS1 cells.
