    Pattern shift visual evoked responses (PSVER) can detect abnormal visual pathway conduction in most patients with optic neuritis (ON) or multiple sclerosis (MS). While not specific, PSVER offers reliable quantitative data for diagnosing these conditions.

    Background:

    • Optic neuritis (ON) and multiple sclerosis (MS) are neurological conditions affecting the visual pathways.
    • Accurate diagnosis and monitoring of visual pathway function are crucial for managing ON and MS.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the utility of pattern shift visual evoked responses (PSVER) in detecting abnormalities in patients with ON and MS.
    • To compare PSVER findings in patients with ON/MS against normal subjects.

    Main Methods:

    • Tested 51 patients with clinically pure ON and 149 with MS (possible to definite) using PSVER.
    • Compared results with 43 normal subjects.
